SEP Education Assistant/Cook

Position summary: Special Education Program Education Assistants, Under the guidance of FNESC support staff and accountable to the GES Administrator.

Work with Adult School Instructor to provide a wide range of Academic assistance, monitoring behavior, facilitating inclusiveness in the classroom, school environment & Language and Culture including all on the land activities.

You must be flexible to adjust to all student’s needs—you will monitor and facilitate student learning individually or in small groups, document daily progress, support students in learning social behavior or life skills, supervise during recess and lunch plus organize classroom items.

In this variety-filled role, you will be required to arrange, and attend meetings with teachers, parents and therapists – in regard to IEP’s and Report Cards.

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years Experience working in a school setting

  • Education Assistant Certificate

  • The ability to work effectively with a full range of students, including students with special needs.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to complete job duties with minimal supervision.

  • In accordance with provincial regulations applicants must pass a criminal records check.

  • Assist with coordinating training and cultural workshops for students

Position summary: Cook

  • Prepare Breakfast and lunch.

  • Kitchen Clean up.

  • Food Inventory and Shopping.

  • Proper Storage of foods.

Bus Driver

Gitwangak Education Society (GES) invites individual applications/resumes for a full-time Bus Driver for the Elementary School and Daycare students. This is a full-time appointment from September 2025 – January 2025. The successful candidate will be required to drive the elementary school bus (52 passenger bus) for the elementary school student’s ages 6yrs to 12 years of age and the 25 passenger school bus for the Daycare student’s ages 3-5 years of age. Extra hours may apply for field trips.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Clean Drivers abstract

  • Valid Class 2 Drivers License

  • Valid First Aid

  • Provide 2 Reference Letters

  • Medical Clearance

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Be accountable to the Administrator and Principal. Provide a new schedule yearly based on enrollment

  • Be Kind, gentle, and patient with children. Become familiar with the child discipline policy of the School

  • Ensure that a staff member or volunteer over the age of 19 accompany the rides for safety reasons

  • Ensure that there is written permission slips from parents before the child rides the bus for field trips

  • Check drop-off sheet daily that is posted in the school for different drop offs for child

  • Ensure the buses are in safe running order

  • Ensure regular maintenance on the 52 passenger bus, 15 passenger bus, and the 25 passenger bus

  • Fill out the daily log book on the 3 buses

  • Ability to schedule regular maintenance appointments and bring the buses to the appointments

  • Daily sanitization and cleaning of the 3 buses

  • The 3 buses will be cleaned once a week you will be paid an extra 3 hours a week for cleaning

  • Extra hours may be applied for School/Daycare Field trips

  • Contact the administrator if you are unable to drive the buses

  • Ensure the sub driver is updated with bus routes, pick-up and drop-off times, and staff ride along schedules, etc.

  • Complete a Request for leave form if you are unable to drive, and assist with finding a sub driver.

  • Become familiar with the bus routes for both elementary and daycare to ensure you are consistent with the schedule. Provide a new schedule yearly based on enrollment

  • Attend regular staff meetings and provide input. Also, must Attend required staff training when provided.

  • Be a team player and work with all staff in a positive manner and provide support as needed

  • Exceptional inter-personal skills and particularly those related to parent/community involvement

Salary: $21/hour

Bookkeeper

Gitwangak Education Society requires a full time Senior Bookkeeper to manage All Finance for all education programs within our organization.

Responsibilities

  • Familiar with fund accounting and dealing with multiple departments.

  • Payroll including regular bi-weekly processing, ROEs, Source Deduction remittances, WorkSafe, and T4s

  • Complete bank and other account reconciliations

  • Accounts payable including invoice entry and cheque deposits.

  • Accounts receivable and funding entries

  • Working with the GES Administrator and department managers on funding agency reporting

  • Year end audit preparation

  • Must be organized

  • Budget development, financial projections, and various reporting

  • Developing reports for department managers, and Board of Directors

  • Financial Management, monthly budgeting, and expenditure is essential

  • Monthly financial reporting to the Board of Directors

  • Be a team player and work with all staff in a positive manner and provide support as needed

  • Other financial duties as required

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and excellent time management skills.

  • Must possess excellent organization, written and verbal skills

Employment Requirements

  • 4 years related experience – a combination of education and experience will be considered.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with a minimum of intermediate experience in Excel

  • Experience in Adagio accounting software and Paydirt payroll software.

  • Knowledge of EFTs

  • Working knowledge of the Indigenous Service Canada (aka INAC) programs

This position is looking for a candidate experienced in teaching primary education and learning interventions. A successful candidate will have knowledge of techniques for blended learning and teaching classes with mixed abilities.

  • Experience with Read Well, Nelson Literacy, Jump Math and Math Makes Sense and other would be an asset

  • Differentiates curriculum expectations and teaching strategies to meet the needs of all students

  • Ability to engage students in a positive learning environment
